Vapreotide
Somatostatin analog for esophageal varices and GI bleeding. Potent vasoconstrictive and antisecretory properties for acute hemorrhage control in portal hypertension.
Vapreotide (also known as RC-160 or BMY-41606) is a synthetic cyclic octapeptide analogue of somatostatin, a naturally occurring peptide hormone that inhibits the secretion of growth hormone and various other hormones. Structurally engineered with two D-amino acids (D-Phe at position 1 and D-Trp at position 4) and a Cys2-Cys7 disulfide bridge, vapreotide exhibits significantly enhanced metabolic stability and receptor selectivity compared to native somatostatin.
